News & Events
Please be patient with us as we develop this site which will be a continual work in progress.
However, some of our recent news is as follows:-
Grants
Successes
In conjunction with the Older Women's Network (OWN) we were successful in obtaining a small grant from the Law and Justice Foundation of New South Wales to develop brochures which we hope will empower older women in respect of the issues surrounding financial abuse.
We were also successful, under the auspices of the Combined Pensioner's and Superannuants NSW Inc (CPSA) in obtaining a another small grant from the Law and Justice Foundation to work, in conjunction with the Older Persons Tenants' Service, to provide information sessions to older persons, in private rental and social housing about the issues of substitute decision making, wills and retirement villages.
In waiting
Emeritus Professor Sol Encel and Sue Field are awaiting the result of a grant application which will enable us to explore issues surrounding older persons and age discrimination in the workforce.
In progress
Dr Fiona Burns (University of Sydney), Professor Carolyn Sappideen and Sue Field are finalising a grant application which will have as its focus the legal, social and economic impact of reverse mortgages.
International Visitors
In March we were fortunate to have visit us Ms Laura Watts who is the National Program Director of the Canadian Centre for Elder Law, based at the British Columbia Law Institute in Vancouver. While here Laura presented a number of papers and met with key personnel in the area of Law Reform and Elder Law.
Joint Ventures
We continue our very successful joint venture with the Trustee Corporations Association of Australia (TCA). Through UWS College we conduct the Certificate IV in Financial Services (Personal Trust Administration). The course, which we have conducted for the last three years, remains very popular.
